Commercial Gardens  •  Client: Post & Beam

Post & Beam • Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza • 3767 Santa Rosalia Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90008

Finally Fresh in Baldwin Hills – At invitingly laid-back Post & Beam, locally sourced can mean it grew out on the patio

“In the patio garden, strawberry plants in flower spill over round galvanized tubs. Favas and sugar snap peas climb a trellis, and thyme and sage scent the air. Old-fashioned lawn chairs covered in a sunny summer print are set out under a tree. At an outdoor table, three women share a couple of hand-stretched pizzas from the wood-burning oven and debate what to get for dessert – blackberry biscuit or chocolate pot de crème.”

Partnering with Post and Beam has been the height of our commercial/hospitality/restaurant practice this year so far! Working with Chef Govind Armstrong and owners, Brad and Linda Johnson has been a wonderful blessing given our shared belief that, as professionals in the food business, we have a responsibility to promote and educate our community about eating locally, in-season and growing healthy organic food in our own back (or front) yards. This little garden, designed and managed by HGEL, is another great example of getting high yield out of a small space. The brilliant folks at P&B think so too and we have partnered to create their own “P&B Garden Club” to help spread the ‘gardening gospel’. Wanna be in the club? Just check in to our upcoming class listing for updates and join our email list (at the upper right hand corner of the page) to receive notices of all the happenings!

See our feature in the September 2012 issue of Sunset Magazine!
